Ancient Egyptian Wooden Sarcophagus with Hieroglyphic Inscriptions
An exceptional and highly decorative Ancient Egyptian wooden sarcophagus, richly adorned with hand-painted hieroglyphic inscriptions and symbolic scenes associated with the journey to the afterlife.
The exterior is covered with detailed hieroglyphs identifying the deceased and invoking protective and funerary formulas. Particularly striking are the numerous depictions of ritual offerings, including food, vessels, and ceremonial objects intended to sustain the deceased in the next world. The painted narrative panels also portray family members, including the wife of the deceased, alongside scenes illustrating important aspects of Egyptian funerary beliefs and religious practices.
A prominent pair of stylized Eyes of Horus adorns one side of the sarcophagus, serving as a powerful symbol of protection, healing, and rebirth. The warm ochre ground and finely executed decoration make this piece both historically significant and visually impressive.
This is a genuine one-of-a-kind artifact and an outstanding example of Ancient Egyptian funerary art, offering collectors and institutions a rare opportunity to acquire a museum-quality display piece.
