Catalogue note
Jackson Pollock was a leading figure of Abstract Expressionism, celebrated for his radical ‘drip’ technique and 'action painting' style, which emphasised spontaneity in the act of creation. His deeply personal quest to remove the barriers of traditional technique between inner experience and outward expression created some of the most important works of 20th century art.
During his lifetime, Pollock helped establish American modern art on a global stage, with his impact still felt today. The artist’s former studio at his home in East Hampton not far from the studio of his good friend David Burliuk, is now a National Historic Landmark, and his work features in international collections including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Tate Modern in London and Centre Pompidou in Paris.
Privately one of his paintings sold for 250 Million dollars.
