Catalogue note
In the Al Khamsa tradition, the Kehilan strain represents the masculine pinnacle of the breed, characterised by a deep chest, powerful bone structure, and a soul devoted to duty. He is the protector.
This carving captures the King with a broad, noble brow and a powerful neck, emerging from a host rock rich in metallic pyrite. The artisan has preserved the crust-like texture of the mother rock against the high polish of the anatomy, so that the animal appears to be surfacing from the earth itself.
Gemological signature: Colombian origin (Muzo/Chivor), with prominent brassy pyrite cubes and high-density three-phase fluid inclusions. Vivid green with a glassy surface polish across the anatomical detail.
Carving an emerald is roughly ten times riskier than faceting one. Because emeralds are naturally brittle, a single wrong vibration from the hand tool can shatter the entire specimen. Every surface here is the record of a risk taken and survived.
