The Work

Catalogue note

A magnificent hand carved Colombian emerald sculpture of extraordinary beauty and refinement, The Queen (Saqlawi) represents the feminine archetype of the legendary Al Khamsa Arabian horse lineage. Celebrated throughout Arabian horse history for elegance, poise, and exceptional beauty, the Saqlawi bloodline has long been regarded as the embodiment of grace and nobility.

Carved from a natural Colombian emerald weighing 891.70 carats, The Queen originates from the legendary emerald deposits of the Boyacá region of Colombia, renowned for producing the finest emeralds in the world. Its luminous green colour displays the celebrated Colombian "Green Fire", a vivid and captivating hue that has adorned royal collections and treasured artifacts for centuries.

The master artisan carefully selected the most translucent sections of the emerald to create a soft, luminous glow throughout the sculpture, enhancing its sense of movement and vitality. The sculpture exhibits a delicate visual softness reminiscent of the famed Gota de Aceite effect, often described as a velvety glow within the finest Colombian emeralds.

Microscopic examination confirms characteristic Colombian emerald features, including natural growth structures, three phase inclusions, and untouched internal "Jardin" formations. These geological signatures authenticate the stone's natural origin and verify that it remains free from artificial enhancement.
